North County pools don't behave like pools anywhere else.

Vista and San Marcos run on some of the hardest tap water in the county — you can see it as the white line on your tile and the crust on your salt cell. Down the hill, the marine layer sits on Oceanside and Carlsbad most mornings from May into July and pushes chlorine demand up before the sun ever hits the water. And every one of these places gets a Santa Ana at least twice a year that puts a week of leaves in your skimmer overnight.

I've been servicing pools across all of it for over fifteen years. I've started, grown, and sold route books in this exact market, and the pools I run now are the ones I chose to keep. Every visit is the same visit: water tested and balanced, surface and tile brushed, baskets emptied, filter pressure and pump flow read, salt cell and heater looked at. Because a small part noticed in March is a big bill avoided in July.

Why weekly, and why the same person

A pool in North County can go from clear to cloudy in five days in August. Chlorine burns off faster here than the label says it will, phosphates come in on the wind, and the fill water you top off with brings in more calcium every time. Weekly is the interval that keeps the chemistry inside the lines instead of chasing it. And the same tech on the same day is what turns a visit into a history: he knows your filter runs at 12 psi clean, so when it reads 20 he knows what that means. A rotating crew can't tell you that.

What we are, and what we're not

We're a maintenance company. We keep pools clean, balanced, and running. When a piece of equipment fails, we diagnose it and tell you in writing what's wrong. The work itself goes to a C-53 partner you deal with directly — we take nothing on it, which means we have no reason to find problems that aren't there. More on how that works on the diagnostics page.

We don't do contracts. If we're good, you'll stay. If you're not happy after your free month, walk away and you owe nothing. And if we ever skip a scheduled stop, that visit is free.

What a weekly visit actually includes

Every stop, every week, in this order. It takes about twenty to thirty minutes on a typical residential pool, longer after wind.

1Test the water before touching anything

Free chlorine, pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, stabilizer, and salt on salt pools. We test first so the adjustments come from what the water says, not from what the calendar says.

2Brush walls, tile line, and steps

Brushing is what keeps scale from bonding to the tile and algae from getting a foothold in the shade corners. It's the step most crews skip when they're running behind. We don't.

3Net the surface, empty every basket

Skimmer basket and pump basket, every visit. A packed pump basket starves the pump of water, and a starved pump is how seals fail.

4Vacuum when the floor needs it

After a Santa Ana, after the jacarandas drop, after a pool party. We vacuum on what we see, not on a schedule that ignores what happened this week.

5Balance the chemistry

Chlorine, acid, and whatever the test called for, dosed to your pool's volume and logged. Chemicals are part of the visit, not a surprise on the invoice.

6Read the filter gauge and watch the pump prime

Filter pressure, pump flow, and a look at the salt cell and heater. This is the part that catches the small problem in March instead of the big one in July.

7Send you the photo report before we leave the driveway

A picture of your pool, the chemistry numbers, what we did, and anything to keep an eye on — emailed from the truck, every visit.

Your first month is free. No contract. Ever.

New weekly customers get their first four visits on us. Not a discount, not a credit against a twelve-month agreement — four full weekly visits, free, and then you decide.

How the free four visits work

You call, we quote you on the phone from your pool's size and equipment, and your first visit is usually within the week. For four weeks you get the full weekly service — testing, brushing, baskets, chemistry, the equipment look-over, the photo report — and you pay nothing. At the end of the month you either keep going at the quoted rate, month to month, or you tell us to stop and you owe nothing. That's the whole offer. It only works if the service is good, which is the point.

Military, first responders, and hospital staff: your first eight visits are free

Camp Pendleton is our backyard. Military — active, reserve, retired, or veteran, any branch — plus first responders and hospital staff: your first two months of weekly service are free. PCS orders? Tell us the date and we pause or cancel the same day, no fee. Full details on the military page.

If we ever skip a scheduled stop, that visit is free

You'll know because you didn't get the photo. We don't argue about it. We also don't lock you in: no annual agreement, no cancellation fee, no notice period beyond telling us. The only fine print is that the free month is for new weekly customers, one per household.

Same county, four different pools

A route that runs from the coast to the foothills sees four kinds of water. Your tech knows which one you have.

Vista & San Marcos — hard water and scale

Inland tap water is some of the hardest in the county. Every top-off adds calcium, and by late summer the tile line has a white crust and the salt cell is coated. We brush the tile line as needed, keep the pH from drifting high, and tell you when calcium hardness is climbing toward the point where a reverse osmosis treatment makes more sense than chasing it with acid. Vista · San Marcos

Oceanside & Carlsbad — marine layer and salt air

The May-to-July overcast keeps water warm and light low, which is exactly what algae wants, and chlorine demand climbs before the sun burns through. Closer to the beach, salt air works on heater cabinets and equipment pads. We run chlorine a little higher through the gray months and check the pad for corrosion. Oceanside · Carlsbad

Escondido, Fallbrook & Bonsall — heat, wind, and debris

Inland summers push water past ninety degrees, evaporation pulls the level down a couple of inches a week, and Santa Anas put a season's worth of leaves and grove dust in the skimmer overnight. Stabilizer creeps up, filters load faster. Expect an extra vacuum after wind, and the quarterly filter clean earns its keep out here. Escondido · Fallbrook · Bonsall

Rancho Santa Fe & the estate pools

Larger bodies of water, more features, more shade, and a lot more leaf load from mature trees. Chemistry moves slower in a big pool but takes longer to correct, so we watch it closer. We work with estate managers and send the report to whoever needs it. Rancho Santa Fe

You'll know your pool was serviced. You'll see it.

After every stop you get an email: a photo of your pool, the chemistry numbers, what we did, and anything to keep an eye on. Not a checkbox on an invoice — an actual picture, every week.

If we ever skip a scheduled stop, that visit is free.

Hi Mark — pool's done. FC 3.0 · pH 7.4 · Alk 90 · CH 320. Skimmer basket was packed from the Santa Ana, cleared it. Filter at 14 psi, normal. Salt cell reading 85% — fine for now, I'll watch it next month. — James
Sent from the truck, before we left your driveway.

When something breaks, we tell you the truth in writing.

Most pool companies in North County sell service and sell the fix. That's a conflict of interest sitting on your equipment pad. We split it.

When a pump won't prime, a heater won't fire, or a salt cell reads zero, we run the checks — flow, pressure, error codes, and what the equipment itself reports, the things that take fifteen years of pattern recognition — and we put the finding in writing: what's wrong, what it's likely to cost to fix, and whether it's urgent or something to watch. Nine times out of ten on a heater, it's a flow problem we can clear on the spot, not a heater problem.

When it needs a C-53

The work goes to our referral partner, Pool-Clinic Inc., a licensed C-53 swimming pool contractor, CSLB #1122305. You contract with them directly and pay them directly. We take nothing.

Because we don't earn on the fix, our write-up has no reason to say anything but what's true. Plenty of our customers have been told by us not to replace something.

Read how a diagnostic visit works on the diagnostics page, or go straight to the common ones: heater not heating, pump won't prime or is loud, motor humming or tripping, pool light out, automation not responding.

Serving all of North County San Diego

Our route runs out of Vista. Same tech, same day, every week, in these cities and the neighborhoods around them. If you're on the edge of the map, call — we probably already have a stop near you.

Questions we get on the phone

Straight answers. If yours isn't here, call — the owner picks up.

What's included in a weekly pool service visit?

Water testing and balancing, brushing walls and tile, netting the surface, emptying skimmer and pump baskets, vacuuming when the floor needs it, a read of filter pressure and pump flow, a look at the salt cell and heater, and a photo report emailed to you before we leave. Chemicals are included. The full list is above.

How do the first four free visits work? Is there a catch?

You get a full month of weekly service free, then decide. No contract, no cancellation fee. The only conditions: it's for new weekly customers, one per household, and the pool needs to be in swimmable shape to start — a green pool is a cleanup first, then the free month begins.

Will the same technician come on the same day every week?

Yes. Same tech, same day. If he's out, you'll hear from us before the visit, not after. That consistency is how your tech notices the filter running five pounds high before it becomes a problem.

Do I need to be home? Do you lock the gate?

No, and yes. Most of our customers are at work when we come. We need gate access — a code, a key, or an unlocked side gate — and we latch it behind us. Dogs are fine if they're fine with us; tell us about them up front. Please keep dogs inside on route day.

Are chemicals included in the price?

Yes. Chlorine, acid, and the routine balancing chemicals are part of the weekly rate. The exceptions are one-time treatments a pool sometimes needs — a green pool cleanup, a phosphate knockdown, a stain lift — which we quote separately and only do with your OK.

Are filter cleans and salt cell cleaning extra?

They're quoted separately. The standard is a filter clean every three months as a preventive measure, with the salt cell clean bundled into the same visit — sooner if the gauge climbs 8–10 psi over its clean reading.

What happens if my pump, heater, or salt cell fails?

We diagnose it and put the finding in writing — what's wrong, whether it's urgent, and our honest opinion on fix versus replace. Work that needs a C-53 goes to Pool-Clinic Inc., a licensed C-53 swimming pool contractor, CSLB #1122305; you deal with them directly and we take nothing on it. See diagnostics.

Can you bring back a green pool? Do you do one-time cleanups?

Yes to both. Most green pools in North County clear in three to five days without draining. Send us a photo and we'll quote it. Details on the algae treatment page.

Why is North County water harder on pools?

Inland water is unusually high in calcium, coastal mornings are overcast half the summer, and the whole county gets Santa Ana winds. Each one moves your chemistry in a different direction. Weekly service with the same tech is the practical answer; the section above explains the four zones.

Who's coming to your house

I'm James. I've run pools in North County for over fifteen years, and Next Level is the route I kept.

I answer the phone. When I can't, someone who works with me every day does, and they know your pool because it's in the report history. We hold CPO and CPI certifications, we're insured, and we're not going to sell you a pump you don't need because we don't sell pumps. If that's the kind of pool company you've been looking for, call, or send us your address and we'll text you a quote.

“…James quickly assessed the condition of my pool and commenced corrective actions that in a few weeks took the pool, the water, and the pool equipment to levels not seen since the pool was refurbished years ago. Next Level (James) is a highly competent professional service that focuses on long term care rather than "Throw a bunch of chemicals at the problem and cross your fingers". Highly Recommend.”

“…I have been through six pool service companies/people in the last 18 months regarding algae growth and spread in my pool. Everyone that came out previously poured shock in by the gallons and loaded the floater with chlorine tabs. This not only did not help, but ruined my pool water to the point I had to drain the pool and scrub it from top to bottom. I finally found Next Level Pool Service and he not only told me exactly what caused the problem (over use of stabilized chlorine and shock), but told me exactly how to resolve the current situation and prevent further algae growth.”
