Next Level Pool Service has been keeping San Marcos pools clear for over fifteen years. Weekly service across San Elijo Hills, Lake San Marcos, Discovery Hills, Old Creek Ranch, and the Creek District — cleaned, balanced, and with your equipment checked on every visit, so nothing about your pool is a surprise. No contracts. Your first 4 visits are free.
San Marcos, CA — 92069 and 92078, in North County San Diego — runs on Vallecitos Water District supply, and it comes out of the tap very hard — some of the hardest tap water in the county. That's the single biggest fact about keeping a pool here. Every week a little water evaporates and leaves its calcium behind, every top-off brings more in, and unless the pH is held low and the alkalinity kept in line, that calcium goes to your tile as a white ring and to your salt cell as a crust that shuts off chlorine production. We look at the cell every visit for exactly that reason, clean it every three months on the same visit as the filter, and we tell you when the water has aged to where a reverse osmosis treatment is a better use of money than another cell cleaning.
Three things, as the water calls for them. The tile line gets brushed before scale can bond to it. The pH gets run at the low end of the range when it needs it, because that's where calcium stays dissolved; a San Marcos pool left to drift to 8.0 grows a white line in a month. And the calcium hardness number gets written down when it's due, so we can see it climbing instead of discovering it. Heaters get the same water through the exchanger, and a heater that short-cycles in fall on a hard-water pool is usually scale — worth diagnosing before winter.
San Marcos is inland. Summer afternoons run past a hundred, water hits the high eighties, and warm water burns chlorine faster than the label says while stabilizer creeps up from every tab. Evaporation pulls the level down and concentrates everything left behind. Santa Anas come down Twin Oaks Valley and put a season of leaves in the skimmer overnight. Winters are mild enough that algae never fully quits in a shaded corner — it just slows down — so the corners get brushed whenever they need it, not just in July.
Same tech, same day, every week. Water tested before anything is touched, then brushed, netted, baskets emptied, vacuumed when it needs it, and chemistry adjusted from the test. Filter gauge read, pump watched priming, cell and heater looked at. Then a photo and the numbers emailed to you before the truck leaves. When something on the pad fails, we diagnose it and put the finding in writing; work that needs a C-53 goes to a partner you deal with directly, and we take nothing on it.
No contract. If we ever skip a scheduled stop, that visit is free. Not happy after your free month? Walk away. You owe nothing.
Different pools, same discipline: numbers written down every week, and a photo to prove it. The truck is based in Vista, down the 78.
Up high near Double Peak, gets the wind first, and has a lot of newer pools with salt cells and variable-speed pumps — the pads to watch for scale. Hilltop lots evaporate faster than anything else in the city, so the level and the calcium both move. HOA streets and gate codes are fine; we work inside the rules.
Older, shadier, and bigger: sixties and seventies pools with mature trees over them and older plumbing where a slow prime is worth noting. The lake brings humidity and bugs the rest of the city doesn't get. Parts of the community are gated and 55-and-over, on a schedule that doesn't change — exactly the kind of account we like.
Family pools from the 2000s and later on the same pads street after street, which means when one fails we've usually seen the pattern. These pools get used hard through summer, so bather load is a real chemistry input on top of the heat.
Larger lots with oaks and eucalyptus, and the valley funnels the Santa Anas. Baskets packed after every wind, floor covered, filter pressure up. It all gets handled on the regular weekly stop, and the quarterly filter clean comes sooner here than in the tract neighborhoods if the gauge calls for it.
Old Creek Ranch is family pools that get used every day of summer. Richmar and the Creek District are older and closer to the center of town — smaller lots, older pads, and the most debris on the water of anywhere in San Marcos.
Newer pools on the north side near Cal State San Marcos, and the streets that blur into Vista and Escondido. If your neighborhood isn't named here, call; we cover both San Marcos ZIP codes and probably have a stop a few blocks away.
Seven steps, same order, every week. Twenty to thirty minutes on a typical San Marcos tract pool; longer in Santa Fe Hills after a wind.
Free chlorine, pH, alkalinity, and stabilizer, plus salt on salt pools; calcium hardness when the water calls for it. On Vallecitos water, calcium and pH are the two numbers that decide what the visit does.
Walls and steps every week, the tile line as needed before scale can bond to it, and the shade corners twice when they call for it, because San Marcos algae doesn't quit in winter — it just slows down.
Skimmer and pump basket, every stop. After a wind down Twin Oaks Valley this is the step that takes longest. A packed basket starves the pump.
After a Santa Ana, after the eucalyptus drops, after a pool party. On what we see, not on a rotation.
Chlorine, acid, and whatever the numbers called for, dosed to volume and logged. On hard water we run pH at the low end when the calcium calls for it. Chemicals are in the weekly rate.
Filter pressure, pump flow, salt cell plates, heater. On a hard-water pool the cell and the heater exchanger are where scale does its quiet damage, so both get eyes on them every week.
A picture of the pool, the numbers, what we did, and anything to keep an eye on — sent from the truck, every visit.
New weekly customers in San Marcos get their first four visits on us — four full weekly visits, then you decide.
You call, we quote from your pool's size and what's on the pad, and the first visit goes on the next route day that passes your house — usually this week. Four weeks of the full visit, and you pay nothing. Then month to month at the quoted rate, or tell us to stop. Conditions: new weekly customers, one per household, and the pool needs to be swimmable to start. A green pool is a cleanup first, then the free month begins.
Camp Pendleton is a short drive away and plenty of its families live in San Marcos. Active duty, reserve, retired, or veteran, any branch — and first responders and hospital staff too — your first eight weekly visits are free. PCS orders? Tell us the date and we pause or cancel the same day, no fee. Details on the military page.
You'll know because the photo didn't arrive. We don't argue about it. No annual agreement, no cancellation fee, no notice period beyond telling us.
After every stop you get an email: a photo of your pool, the chemistry numbers, what we did, and anything to keep an eye on. Not a checkbox on an invoice — an actual picture, every week.
If we ever skip a scheduled stop, that visit is free.
What goes wrong on San Marcos pools most often, and what we do about it first.
Calcium coming out of Vallecitos water. Brushed as needed, pH held low when the water calls for it, hardness logged so you know when RO is the better answer.
Usually scaled plates, not a dead cell. We look weekly and do the cleaning every three months, bundled with the filter clean, before the pool goes soft.
Summer pulls the level down and concentrates what's left. Stabilizer climbs from every tab. We watch both numbers and say so before chlorine stops working.
Baskets packed overnight and a filter gauge that jumps. Santa Fe Hills, Twin Oaks, and San Elijo get it handled on the regular weekly stop — net, both baskets, gauge, vacuum if the floor needs it.
Most companies serving San Marcos sell the weekly service and sell the fix. We don't do the second part, and we'll say so plainly.
When a heater won't fire, a pump won't prime, or a salt cell reads zero, we run the checks — flow, pressure, error codes, and what the equipment itself reports — and put the finding in writing: what's wrong, whether it's urgent, and our honest opinion on fix versus replace. On a hard-water pool the finding is often scale — in the cell, in the heater exchanger — and sometimes it's just flow: a packed basket, a filter overdue for a clean, a lid O-ring, which we clear on the spot.
Anything involving parts, wiring, or gas goes to our referral partner, Pool-Clinic Inc., a licensed C-53 swimming pool contractor, CSLB #1122305. You contract with them directly and pay them directly. We take nothing.
Because we don't earn on the fix, the write-up has no reason to say anything but what's true.
How a diagnostic visit works is on the diagnostics page. The common ones: heater not heating, pump won't prime, motor humming or tripping, light out, automation not responding.
The jobs a hard-water pool needs a few times a year.
The route runs out of Vista, next door, and the cities around San Marcos are on the same days. Same tech, same day, every week in each of them.
The ones we get on the phone from San Marcos. If yours isn't here, call — the owner picks up.
Vallecitos water comes in very hard — some of the hardest in the county — and evaporation concentrates it while every top-off adds more. Left alone it becomes a white line on the tile and a crust on the salt cell. We brush the tile line as needed, hold the pH at the low end when the water calls for it, look at the cell every stop, and log the hardness so you see it climbing.
Quoted on the phone in about two minutes from your pool's size and what's on the pad — no site visit. Chemicals are in the weekly rate; filter and salt cell cleans are quoted separately and done every three months on the same visit. The first four visits are free, so you see the service before you pay for it.
Yes, and both ZIP codes — 92069 and 92078. Gated streets and HOA communities are fine; give us the code or put us on the list and we latch every gate behind us. If you're in San Marcos, Texas, we're the wrong San Marcos.
Not necessarily. A reverse osmosis treatment pulls calcium and stabilizer out while keeping most of the water in the pool, which matters in a drought year and on old plaster that shouldn't sit empty in July. A drain-and-refill is the right call sometimes, and we'll say which from the numbers.
New weekly customers get a full month of weekly service free, then decide. No contract, no cancellation fee. Military households — active, reserve, retired, veteran, any branch — plus first responders and hospital staff get eight. One per household, and the pool needs to be swimmable to start; a green pool is a cleanup first.
Same tech, same day, every week. If he's out, you hear from us before the visit, not after. If we ever skip a scheduled stop, that visit is free — you'll know because the photo report didn't arrive.
We diagnose it and put the finding in writing: what's wrong, whether it's urgent, and our honest fix-versus-replace opinion. Flow and settings problems we clear on the spot. Anything with parts, wiring, or gas goes to Pool-Clinic Inc., a licensed C-53 swimming pool contractor, CSLB #1122305 — you deal with them directly and we take nothing on it. See diagnostics.
Usually this week — the first visit goes on the next route day that passes your house. You don't need to be home. We need gate access — a code, a key, or an unlocked side gate — and we latch it behind us. Tell us about dogs up front, and please keep dogs inside on route day.
4.5 from 90 reviews across Google, Yelp & Angi. Thirty of them below, quoted as written.
“I had a home in Oceanside for 5 years. In that time I went through 3 other pool services. James and Next Level were by far the best and most professional company. My inly regret is not finding them sooner. When I sold the house recently, I strongly recommended the new owner continue with Next Level. They are the best!”
“…James is amazing. He came the day I called for an estimate. His prices are very reasonable. He is extremely knowledgeable about all things pools and spas. Definitely quality work. He follows directions. Sends a photo of our spa water after each weekly treatment. Is available via text, phone or email with a quick response time.”
“…Now, here comes James. He knows his business 110% . Can answer all my questions to my satisfaction. He goes above and beyond to make sure you are a satisfied customer. I didn't even get to mention they have the best prices in the county that I have seen. So much more for your money. Like what you ask? Do you get photos of your crystal clean waters after the service? Detailed service reports which include chemical concentration before and after treatment including what was added and it's all sent to your email after the visit is complete.”
“I have been so happy with James and his team. My pool looks great, I appreciate the communication, they send pictures and he lets me know what chems he used. You get what you pay for with this team. It's great service. Stop paying for a bad job and start paying for what you expect: a clean pool to enjoy.”
“…James quickly assessed the condition of my pool and commenced corrective actions that in a few weeks took the pool, the water, and the pool equipment to levels not seen since the pool was refurbished years ago. Next Level (James) is a highly competent professional service that focuses on long term care rather than "Throw a bunch of chemicals at the problem and cross your fingers". Highly Recommend.”
“Great company!! Staffs are very friendly and responsive. Price is fair and service is spot on!! Highly recommend.”
“…I have been through six pool service companies/people in the last 18 months regarding algae growth and spread in my pool. Everyone that came out previously poured shock in by the gallons and loaded the floater with chlorine tabs. This not only did not help, but ruined my pool water to the point I had to drain the pool and scrub it from top to bottom. I finally found Next Level Pool Service and he not only told me exactly what caused the problem (over use of stabilized chlorine and shock), but told me exactly how to resolve the current situation and prevent further algae growth.”
“…Very personalized service, best price in our area. Savings options. Stellar customer service. If something comes up that is outside of their scope they will connect you with their colleagues who can can address that need. Please help this small business grow. I highly recommend them!”
“I just started with Next Level Pool Service and Repair for the past two months and have been very impressed, while other companies I have tried have refused to do above-ground pools and spas, Next Level has done a good job at servicing them.”
“James comes out every week to check the chemicals of our fountain and make the necessary changes. Our fountain was cleaned rock by rock when we first started service. We get a text when he is on his way which is helpful as well. Highly recommend”
“…James is so knowledgeable and professional. Really enjoyed our interaction and he really cares about pools and treating them. He takes the time to fully explain treatment plans and products. You can tell he is passionate about what he does and cares about his customers.”
“Barry turned our pool around! Very helpful & knowledgeable. Amazing results”
“After trying to DIY my pool following online forums and YouTube videos, I couldn’t for the love of god get rid of the stubborn algae out of my pool. James came in, did his magic, my pool is now sparkling clean. Knowledge and experience are a key. They don’t just come in and clean your pool, they explain everything along the way. Highly recommended.”
“James is knowledgeable and responsive. My pool is crystal clear now - he kept coming back until the job was completed and everything was sorted out. He even helped us sort out our pump schedule remotely. I recommend Next Level Pool Service.”
