Salt Cell Cleaning Service

Your salt system says it's running, the salt reading is fine, and the chlorine is still zero. Nine times out of ten the cell is scaled. North County's hard water deposits calcium on the titanium plates, the plates stop producing, and the control panel throws a "check cell" or "low salt" message even when the salt is right.

Other signs: cloudy water on a system that used to keep it clear, algae creeping back, or white crust visible through the cell housing.

Why North County Water Eats Salt Cells

Vista, San Marcos and Escondido run on some of the hardest water in the county, and a salt cell is essentially a calcium magnet. The plates make chlorine by electrolysis, which raises pH right at the plate surface, which drops calcium out of solution exactly where you don't want it.

The cell's self-cleaning polarity reversal slows it down, but it can't keep up with 300-plus ppm calcium and summer heat. Left alone, a scaled cell works harder, shortens its own life, and leaves you buying chlorine for a system you paid thousands to avoid buying chlorine.

How We Clean a Salt Cell

1. Test water chemistry first, including salt, calcium, pH and stabilizer, because a cell cleaned into bad water scales right back up.
2. Pull the cell and inspect the plates for scale, pitting and wear.
3. Descale properly, in the right acid ratio for the right amount of time, then rinse. Over-acid-washing eats the coating and kills the cell.
4. Reinstall, confirm the system is producing, and set the output percentage for the season.
5. Write it down in your report, with a photo of the plates before and after.

Keeping It From Scaling Again

Calcium and pH control are the long-term fix. On weekly service we keep calcium hardness and pH in range, which slows scaling dramatically, and we log the cell every visit so the next clean happens before output drops. When calcium is too high to manage with chemistry, a reverse osmosis treatment resets the water without a drain.

Most cells need a clean every three to four months on North County water; Next Level Service customers get it scheduled quarterly, bundled with the filter clean.
