Motor humming, tripping, or dead? We'll diagnose it.

A pump motor has three ways of failing and each sounds different. A hum with no spin is a seized shaft or a bad start capacitor — the capacitor is the cheap one, and it's the one that goes first on a motor that's been baking on a west-facing pad in Escondido all summer. A motor that starts, runs hot, and trips the breaker after a few minutes is drawing more current than it should, usually bearings or windings. A motor that's just dead is either not getting power or has finished its life.

We work backwards from the breaker. Voltage at the panel, at the timer or automation relay, and at the motor terminals, because a lot of "dead motors" are a tripped GFCI, a failed relay, or a timer that's stopped — none of which is the motor. Then the motor itself: we spin the shaft by hand for a seized bearing, meter the capacitor, read the amp draw against the nameplate, and check the windings for a short to ground. On a variable-speed pump the drive has its own fault log and we read it. Motors on hard-water pools go through bearings faster because a leaking shaft seal drips calcium straight into them, so we look at the seal too.

You get a written finding: exactly what failed, whether the pump's wet end is fine and only the motor is done, and whether it makes sense to spend money on a single-speed motor at all given what a variable-speed pump saves on an SDG&E bill. That last part is the conversation most people never get to have before someone's already handing them an invoice.
